About Us
The Technical Assistance Program (TAP) was founded to respond to the critical needs of government agencies in Florida for timely,
affordable, and high quality technical assistance. As part of the Florida Resources and Environmental Analysis Center (FREAC) at
Florida State University, the Program draws on the expertise of FREAC for Geographic Information System (GIS) development, spatial
database maintenance, web based database delivery, and graphic representation of geographic information.
Philosophy
We believe public service, in addition to research and teaching, is an important function of the university. One way to fulfill
this public service mission is through technical assistance to government agencies and local governments in Florida.
Interests
Our interests have kept pace with developing technologies and governmental needs. We are currently partnering with the Institute
of Government to bring critical GIS technology to small communities in Florida. We are also working with the Florida Natural Areas
Inventory to design and maintain a comprehensive database critical to the conservation of Florida’s biological diversity.
